Requesting Permission
to Use NEJM Material in News Reporting

The NEJM welcomes requests from members of the media wishing to re-use content first published in NEJM. Click here for general information about permissions.

Basic Guidelines for Use of Images in News Reporting

  • Graphic content must not be altered
  • Any caption will accurately reflect NEJM's legend and context of original publication
  • Each use requires a credit line on the page where NEJM's image appears: "Source: The New England Journal of Medicine [date of issue]."
  • NEJM images may not be used in advertising, or in any manner implying endorsement or promotion by the NEJM or its parent/owner, the Massachusetts Medical Society
  • Images may not be "unbundled," permanently archived, sold, loaned, or used for commercial or other purposes, apart from their use in the initial news reporting events, without further written consent
  • Uses must be for news reporting only
